Kanya Satwika

Kanya heads the Projects & Energy side of our Banking, Finance & Projects practice. Since moving to AHP in 2003 , Kanya has gained a reputation as one of Jakarta’s most promising young lawyers in the energy and mining sectors, and has been intimately involved in several power-plant projects being developed as part of the Indonesian government’s power sector expansion program, while at the same time also playing a leading role in a number of renewable energy initiatives. For example, in 2017 Kanya represented Asian Development Bank in its financing of the Tolo Wind Farm, providing Indonesia with green and sustainable infrastructure development.  She also advised Star Energy Consortium on its acquisition of Chevron’s USD 2.3 Billion geothermal portfolio in Indonesia, the largest energy sector deal in Indonesia in recent years.

In addition, she has amassed considerable experience in the development of Islamic finance. In fact, she was one of the leading lights in arranging the legal aspects of Indonesia’s first sovereign global Islamic bond in 2009.

Kanya holds a bachelor of law degree, majoring in transnational law, from the University of Indonesia, and an LL.M in oil and gas law in 2013 from the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, United Kingdom. While at university, she was an active member of the English Debating Society and the International Law Mooting Society, and represented the University of Indonesia in numerous competitions, both at the domestic and international levels.

Kanya has a deep interest in promoting legal education in Indonesia, and to this end regularly provides coaching to University of Indonesia law students on the finer points of legal debating.
