Harun Wailan Ngantung

Prior to teaming up with Assegaf Hamzah & Partners, Harun commenced his legal career as in intern in the Europe, Middle East and Africa Department of a US-listed company based in Amsterdam, before moving back to Indonesia to take up a position with another leading law firm in Jakarta.

With a deep interest in the law for as long as he can remember, Harun brings a sharp intellect and acute legal insight to bear in all the mandates that come his way. At AHP, he specializes in general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and banking and finance. Well versed in both the law and the realities of business practice, he has all the attributes required of a successful commercial lawyer. Among the recent high-profile mandates he has worked on are PT Bank Mandiri Tbk’s 2011 rights issue, PT Indosat Tbk’s issuance of USD 650,000,000 7.375% Guaranteed Senior Notes, one of Indonesia’s biggest debt issuances of 2010, and independent geothermal power producer Star Energy Geothermal (Wayang Windu)’s global offering of USD 350 million of senior secured notes in reliance on Rule 144A/Reg. S, also in 2010.

Harun was awarded a master of laws degree (meester in de rechten) by Leiden University in 2006, specializing in corporate law and management. He also holds an advocate's professional training certificate from the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi), and is an active member of the association.

Not with standing his busy schedule as a commercial lawyer, Harun still finds time to engage in academic research, and played an instrumental role in the drafting of the Legal Statement on Expedited Enforcement of Security Rights in Indonesia (Grosse Akte), a project sponsored by the National Legal Reform Program.  When not immersing himself in the law, Harun likes to relax by playing soccer, and exploring new places and cultures.
