Since joining AHP in 2011, Asep has continued to focus his practice on commercial litigation, and the competition, employment and bankruptcy fields, the areas of the law in which he has specialized since commencing his professional career in 2004.

Among the major competition law cases in which Asep has played a leading role are the Indonesian competition authority (KPPU)’s actions against Singapore Technologies Telemedia over allegations of cross-ownership in the telecommunications sector, against PT Carrefour Indonesia over allegations of abuse of dominant market position, against PT. Telekomunikasi Selular over allegations of a cartel to fix text-message charges, and against PT Pfizer Indonesia and PT Salim Ivomas Pratama over allegations of a cartel in the pharmaceutical and cooking oil industries. He has also handled a number of merger and acquisition notifications to the KPPU in relation to competition issues.

Asep has also worked on a ground-breaking class action in the telecommunications sector, which involved a claim against a number of telecommunications companies based on a finding by the KPPU that the companies had breached their obligations under the Consumer Protection Act.

In the employment arena, Asep represented Vietnam Airlines Corporation as defendant in a tort action by another airline related to allegations that the defendant had lured away the plaintiff’s employees, and PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara in the Industrial Relations Court in a dispute with its employees over working hours.

Asep graduated with a bachelor’s degree in law from Diponegoro University, Semarang, in 2003, before going on to earn a master’s degree in economic law from the University of Indonesia in 2008. He also holds an advocate’s practicing certificate from the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi). As an active participant in student activities at college, Asep gained invaluable organizational and advocacy skills as the president of the Diponegoro University Law Faculty’s Students Association (1999-2000) and chairman of the university’s Students Union (2000-2001).

When not practicing his legal skills in the courts, Asep likes nothing better than to practice his sporting skills on the tennis court.
